Windows Monthly Cumulative Updates package with Windows 11 LTSC

We have discovered that the LTSC version of Windows11 24H2 doesn't work with the Cumulative Updates package in the Package Library.  It will immediately fail on the prerequisite installation of the SSU, or Servicing Stack Update, since the SSU updates we include do not apply to Win11 LTSC.

This appears to be an issue with how the LTSC version is serviced.  Microsoft states in this article (June 11, 2025—KB5063060 (OS Build 26100.4351) Out-of-band - Microsoft Support) that the SSU is included in the Cumulative Update for LTSC branches.

The workaround is to either modify the monthly Cumulative Update package in the Package Library each month or to use the PSWindowsUpdates packages.

  • From the Package Library, download Windows 11 (24H2) and Windows Server 2025 - Cumulative Update (64-bit) as a Standard Download.  Once downloaded, disable Step 2, which is the SSU prerequisite.  You can also duplicate our monthly package and then convert it into a standard package. Note that you'll need to update the package each month when the new cumulative update is made available from Microsoft. If you'd like to go this route, please review the steps needed here to convert the duplicated package: Modifying Package Library Packages
  • Use the PSWindowsUpdates scripts to install available updates.  We recommend using just the PSWindowsUpdate - Install Applicable Critical and Security Updates from Microsoft 2.2.1.5 package at first.  You can try the ones for Drivers and other updates later, if this process works and you are comfortable with installing those additional updates in your environment.  If you'd like to investigate the PSWindowsUpdate route, then please review our article about it here:
