Machines still showing in old collection after new package sent

Recently in Inventory with Firefox, Google Chrome, and VLC I have started seeing machines still being in the OLD category even after being updated with Deploy. It looks like it is still seeing the old version even after I nest a uninstall/reinstall new version.

I am confused as to why it just started a few months ago and does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning it up?

Thanks!

  • If the uninstall step doesn't have silent parameters, or is missing the correct silent parameter, that could be why the old version is sticking around.

For Mozilla, the silent install parameter is -ms, but it looks like their silent uninstall parameter is /S. You can add that either to an uninstall step, or use it in a remote command via PDQ Inventory.

Let me know if that helps! :)

  • I am using the package from PDQ and it does look like the Remove previous MMS step has the /S

  • It looks like those are applications that were installed by users. You will probably need to uninstall those individually. For the version of Firefox in your screenshot it would look like this:

    "C:\Users\BADUSER\AppData\Local\Mozilla Firefox\uninstall\helper.exe" -ms

I have found "helper.exe -ms" to be more effective than "setup.exe /S".

  • P.S.

The "Remove Previous MMS" step is only removing the Mozilla Maintenance Service, not Firefox.
