Wake on LAN solution and a question

I have PCs distributed in several buildings, with lot of traveling computers. Updating has been a nightmare that PDQ has made much easier. Two needs I have are:

 

  • I need to know which computers have Wake On LAN set up properly. I’ve created a simple test. I have four packages. Package 1 Issues a reboot. Package 2 Does a shutdown only. Package 3 Does create of file C:\wol.txt that a subsequent file scan can read. Package 4 is a Bundle of the previous packages with a file scan. This works well. I’m wondering if there is a more elegant solution.

 

  • I need a way to nag people to reconnect to the domain after x many days so I can deploy updates. I’m thinking of a pop-up once every hour or so until they connect. This is almost certainly out of scope for PDQ but I thought I’d bring it up here since other people must have the same problem.
