VPN users or remote users

How should I have things setup to get VPN or remote users machine's scanned? Right now when someone VPN's in, or if a remote user pops into the office,  nothing happens with regards to their machines being scanned.

  • What level of license do you have? Pro? Enterprise?

Do your VPN users reside in a specific OU in your Active Directory?

Depending on answers to those questions, we could put together a Dynamic Collection with a Heartbeat Scanner that Scans the Collection every xx minutes.

  • Alright. I think if we add the Computer names for these Users to this group, we can build a Dynamic Collection to build off of. Is that something you could do?

  • How do you setup the heart beat scanner for an collection?

  • Prefences > Scan Profiles > New

Add the Scanners you want, I'd do all of them so you get all the goodies.

Then on the Triggers Tab Set it to Heartbeat

And it looks like you can't actually tie a Scan Profile to a collection like I thought you could. However, you could Create a Scheduled Task and run the following in an elevated Command Prompt:

pdqinventory ScanCollections -ScanProfile "Your HeartBeat Profile Name" -Collections "Your New Collection Name"

Set it to run every xx minutes, as often or as little as you'd like. That should do the trick.

  • Setting up a heartbeat will solve this?

  • The machines must be getting DNS since they use that IP address to scan the machines and the heartbeat only works if you have DNS/Firewall setup to allow them to get to the DNS
