Central Server Licensing question

I have 2 deploy licenses one inventory license. Deploy and Inventory both installed on a server. Deploy on the server has all the packages shared. Mostly I use RDP to connect to the console from the server directly. I also have the console install via Citrix for the other deploy license which connects to the PDQ server and uses all the shared packages. This allows me to connect to PDQ through Citrix at home and run deployments on the fly.

I heard in the webcast that central server is optional but then I also heard that sharing is going to be 'replaced' by central server so does this mean my console via Citrix connecting to the shared packages will stop working ??

Some clarification would be great.

Thanks.

  • Yes, Sharing will be removed in a future version. You will have to turn the console on your Citrix server into a Client.

If central server is an optional feature how can they remove package sharing ?!?

  • Central Server is designed to replace Sharing.

  • Is it still possible to access a server mode install as a client on the same box.  Similar to the setup mentioned above, I usually remote into a box running both PDQ products.  If I move it to server mode and install the client on my laptop, will I lose the ability to RDP into the PDQ box when my laptop is offsite?

  • Yes, you can still access the server mode console via RDP. I don't do it often, but from time to time I find it necessary to jump on that box. So I can confirm it works.
