Bitlocker status not showing up

 Hi everyone,

We have Bitlocker enabled on our laptops but the status is showing up as unlocked in the Disk Drives > Partitions menu. Any ideas why this is?

Thanks,

James

  • I believe it shows "Unlocked" because that drive is in use and authenticated at the time of the scan. If it was "Locked" you couldn't read/write to the drive.

    "Unlocked" doesn't mean "Unprotected"

You can see the status of BitLocker using the command below.

Run the following command in PowerShell with Elevated Permissions on the machine in question:

    manage-bde -status c:manage-bde -status c:

on the PC in question, you should see the following output

    Volume C: [Local Disk]
    [OS Volume]

    Size: XXX.XX GB
    BitLocker Version: 2.0
Conversion Status: Used Space Only Encrypted
    Percentage Encrypted: 100.0%
    Encryption Method: XTS-AES 128
    Protection Status: Protection On
    Lock Status: Unlocked
    Identification Field: Unknown
    Key Protectors:
    TPM
    Numerical Password

Let me know if this helps.
