windows 10 updates what package first?

hi all,

i have seen PDQ deploy now has an option in the package library to download windows 10 updates, that is great news

what one should i download and deploy, should i deploy the win 10 initial/1511/1607 or the 1703

or should i download all of them and create a nested package that includes all of them?

many thanks,

rob

  • That depends on which version of Windows 10 your targets are running. This is shown in the "SP / Release" column in Inventory.

Each of those packages is a cumulative update for each version. They will not upgrade machines from one release to another.

  • You have to download the ISO from Microsoft.

I don't know if you can jump from 1511 to 1703, but I bet you can.

  • when you say ISO you mean the windows 10 ISO or you mean the upgrade iso files?

  • As far as I'm aware there is no separate file. I believe you have to download the ISO and extract its contents.

  • The important thing is that you download the Professional/Enterprise edition and not the Home.
The Microsoft Windows and Office ISO Download Tool might be of a great assistance to you.

Yoou should also check the Windows lifecycle fact sheet.

The build 1703 (creators update) is the latest one. You should test the upgrade in your test enviroment. There are also some issues to consider.

I still prefer Windows 7, but the 1703 seem to be the most polished of the Win10 bunch.
