WOL Inventory vs Deploy

PDQ Inventory successfully wakes my PCs, but PDQ Deploy doesn't?  I'm running Inventory 12r4 and Deploy 13r2 (both in Enterprise Trial mode), on a brand new VM running Server 2016, which is in the same subnet as the PCs I want to wake.

Any ideas why inventory works and deploy doesn't, any log files I can check to see what's happening before I breakout wireshark?

Thanks,

Matthew

  • Does Deploy show the deployment was successful? Do you have "Preferences --> Deployments --> Offline Status --> Send Wake-on-LAN and attempt deployment" set?

  • Hi Colby,

No, PDQ's "All Deployments"shows elapsed time of around 50 seconds, 2 targets, 2 failed, 0 successful.  Drilling down into the Deployment the status is failed, "Target computer offline".

The "Offline Status" setting in the preferences is set to "Ping before deployment" and "Send WOL and attempt deployment", the job schedule also has the same setting ticked under Schedule/Offline Status.

    Thanks,

  • Did you use the same targets in Inventory and Deploy? Deploy looks up the MAC address for the target from the Inventory database, so if your target isn't in Inventory it won't work.

  • Ah, looks like since I spun up the new server I hadn't scanned the target PCs so they didn't have the MACs in the Inventory. I woke them using manual MAC entry, scanned them and shut them down again.  Then PDQ Deploy successfully woke them and deployed.

    Sorted.

    Thanks,
    Matthew
