Windows XP and 2003 PDQ Deploy no more ?

It seems that 13.3 is the last version that can deploy to Windows XP and 2003. Unfortunately some of my clients still have XP and 2003 ( even 100 + hosts ), so this is a sad news somehow. I know, that they should update ... but, is there any way to support deploying to legacy clients, or downgrade is the only option ? Now I'll have to have two parallel deployment servers to cover this situation.

Thx !

  • Just an FYI to anyone interested. Thanks to Colby, I got a copy of PDQ Deploy 13.3 and installed it on a separate PC. I also kept the current version of PDQ Deploy installed on my original server. I deploy to older OSs from the PC running 13.3 and anything the latest version supports I deploy from the server. The new PCs don't have my old packages, but in the end, I didn't need most of them.

The main issue I've run into is Adobe Flash, which I download through the package store. The package store doesn't work in 13.3 so I can't get these. Adobe has taken the Admin downloads offline, so you can only download them via the normal method. This of course means they might install something you don't want (e.g. a toolbar). I've found that if you set Flash to update automatically you get around all this.

I'm hoping this too will be a thing of the past soon. I've currently only got four PCs running Flash still and Adobe is set to kill it in 2020. Last I heard it was down to 8% usage on the web.

  • You can try deploying the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime to them, but we've seen mixed results. If that doesn't work then you will have to run 2 different instances of Deploy or stay on 13.

  • I'm in the same boat as Miroslav. I have a bunch of Windows XP PCs and a number of Windows 2003 Servers. I don't really want to install Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime on them. Especially since it's only a maybe that it will work and continue working. Is there a way to downgrade from 14.2 to 13.3 and not lose my packages? If not, I don't have a copy of the 13.3 installer, where can I get it? If you have any other suggestions I'm all ears. I'd rather stay up-to-date with you guys, but unfortunately I'm stuck supporting a lot of legacy applications.

    Thanks,
    Nick
