Distributed Software Deployment

Dear PDQ-Team,

we´re planning to Setup a couple of branch Offices within Germany and are now looking for a solution to deploy the Software packages to each Client within the branch Office.

Is it possible to Setup a PDQ-Clientserver in each branch Office and configure this PDQ-Clientserver to manage Software updates only for Clients that are connected to that site? We want to avoid that a Client from Berlin loads the Software packages from the Server in Hamburg.

Is PDQ able to take care of different sites and branch Offices? The PDQ-Administration (creating and updating packages) will be centrally be handled at one site (Hamburg).

  • Create a DFS share folder in Hamburg and sync him with Berlin:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfeAonXxj5o

Put in the files and point with the install package to this share, use the DNS path, not the IP.

    Right: \\your-domain.local\Deploy\Custom\Office_2016\setup.exe
    Wrong: \\192.168.0.10\Deploy\Custom\Office_2016\setup.exe

If done correctly and the files are full syncronized,  the clients from Berlin are picking up the files from the folder in Berlin and the clients in Hamburg are picking up the files from the folder in Hamburg.

You have to change the PDQ Deploy deployment mode from "Push" to "Pull".

I recommend you move the full PDQ repository to the DFS share, makes the live much easier.

thanks a lot for your quick reply.

We will take care of your advise and create a DFS-Share in the next week – as soon as we have tested the new deployment share we will give you an update.
