Best practice for retired/disposed of computers

Hi,

I would like to know what is the best practice for dealing with computers which have been retired/disposed of. Do others just delete them from PDQ Inventory or do you hide them somehow so you can keep the history?

Thanks

Brad

  • I delete them, but that's what works for our environment. Our retired PCs are generally wiped and donated to PCs for People, so keeping the history of them isn't really necessary or useful. We document the list of parts and such elsewhere in addition to Inventory, though.

If you needed to keep the history of retired devices, you could build a basic report that pulls the info your need for that particular PC, then export the results before deleting it from Inventory. Granted, that info will only be as good as the last scan date.

    Hope that helps!
