Im in in the process of looking into PDQ and have some questions
As we soon will move over to WIn10 we have to find a deployment tool for our environment. I think we will go for the enterprise version to get the most available functionality.
I have looked around but have not found the answer to the following questions. In our environment none of the users are local administrator. Nice if you can answer them:
1: Is it possible to start an installation from an icon on a user’s desktop / or from a command in a none elevated dos prompt?
2: Is it possible to run a command when a use log on to the PC which will force installation of all updated packages intended for that PC?
3: If you have remote offices - how do you deploy to PCs in other locations? (Do the PCs download the installation package from the central server or do you have local servers / local shares from where they can download?)
4: Is it possible to deploy to a test environment and when you are happy with the new / updated installation package you can easily release all packages from your test environment to production? (Or do you have to stop the deployment to a group, start the deployment to another group and when you are happy with the installation, again deploy to the first group?)
5: Is it possible to add scripting code in PDQ itself (ex to make decisions under the installations of a product) or can you just run external scripts?
6: is it possible to skip a package in a nested deployment based on a variable / test done under the deployment?
7: Can you create icons for a (non admin) user under their start menu so they can install a program if they need it (pull).
8: If a program already has been installed on the PC, can you then deploy user settings / configuration for other user’s when they later login on to the PC? (Or if you want the user setting to be deployed each time you log on to the PC - in away reset all user setting and set it back to default).
This was all my questions for this time – hopefully you can answer this. Thanks for helping.
