Restrictions/requirements for deploying to a machine on a different subnet

What are the requirements for PDQ Deploy to be able to connect to a system and install software to it?

Can I install software to a machine that is not on the local LAN or not in the domain but pingable and that I can connect to via net use?

  • Yes, it sounds like you are using net use which uses Microsoft SMB for communication, which is required. So based on what you've stated you should be able to use PDQ Deploy. Since you're not on a domain, you will need to be certain that you deploy software with an administrator account that is recognized by the target system.

  • Can I use a host file for system resolution.

I have 5 systems that are not on a domain. Dns is hosted by Go-daddy. I am not able to connect to the individual Servers.

  • Hi Cip,

Yes you can use the hosts file. I would recommend having an entry for both the computer name and the fully qualified name (homer and homer.domain).
