Office 365 - Email Server

Hi,

We have recently moved to Office 365 for mail and do not have a local exchange anymore. I have tried changing the preferences to work with Office 365 SMTP server, but no luck.

Anyone know how to do this as there no option to change port etc.?

  • There are few things to consider, set the SMTP servetr setting to the value of the MX record for the target e-mail mailserver. This works like a direct delivery and is just fine for a single e-mail or wehn all target adresses are on the same server.

The other option is to install a simple SMTP server, which works only for the internal purposes and is closed for the public and works only as a outbound smtp forwarder server.

Or you can create a gmail account and use Googles mailserver to forward the mail.

  • Oh and there is one more O365 issue... If you want to use it as forwarder, you have to have an additional CAL licence. This applies to all devices which will use a mailbox for collecting mail. (like a printer mailbox)

  • Hi,
I have tried adding Gmail, but must have something wrong.  I add the SMTP server "smtp.gmail.com" and select the Enable SSL, once entered in the username and password and test it says "Server dies not support secure connections." and then when unticked it says "The SMTP server requires a secure connection"....

    Thanks

  • Then try to use: smtp.gmail.com:465 or smtp.gmail.com:587

I am not sure which encryption is used by PDQ Deploy. SSL or TLS, but specifying the 465 should work.
