Setting Chrome as default Browser

I would like to set Google Chrome as the default browser at our school. I have the registry change to do this and it works Ok when run, but when I distribute it via PDQ it does not make the required changes.

  • The registry key location most probably largely depends on in what context Google Chrome was installed  on the system. There is a very good chance it's installed in user context, meaning registry keys will be somewhere in HKCU, or in the registry under the SID of the user who installed it.

Have you looked at the Google chrome ADMX template for Group Policy? I'd go that route with it. And push Google Chrome enterprise from the package library. It's much easier to configure and control Google Chrome that way.

  • Cheers Stephen

I will have a look at the Enterprise route.

I'm only going this route as IE 11 is playing up when YouTube is played in full screen mode, which I can resolve by adding YouTube to IE Compatibility list, but that's a pain to deploy.

  • Not really. You can again, use Group Policy for that! I can't remember offhand where you configure the setting, but you can configure the compatibility list via group policy.

Work smarter, not harder my friend :)
