Will Windows 2000 ever be supported?
I know there are a fair amount of inventory tools which are able to retrieve data from Windows 2000 remotely and just wondering if this is because of how PDQ communicates or rather how other tools to it but why we're unable to leverage that type of technology for this OS support?

Hi Ken, we do not plan on supporting Windows 2000 or other older OS's from Microsoft. When MS ends general support for an OS (which for 2000 was in 2010) we also end support for it.
I believe that XP will end support in April 2014.
The main problem with PDQ Inventory is that .NET 3.5 doesn't run on Windows 2000. We judged that the effort to build and test the scanners to work with .NET 2.0 (or go native) wasn't warranted considering the number of Windows 2000 computers still out there.
While the inventory of the machine may not be supported, what will occur when you use "AD Sync" and PDQ Inventory finds a computer object, and the OS is listed as Windows 2000, will PDQ Inventory at least indicate / sync that AD information?
If anything just a small feature on the computer indicating it cannot retrieve additional information? We can at least retrieve some information like OS and heartbeat.
This is something we hadn't been considering but it does make sense. We had planned on adding "non-Windows" devices and while this isn't technically a non-Windows device it would make sense to treat it similarly (i.e. it can't be scanned).
I'm always surprised to learn that there are still some out there, but I guess there probably will be for a while.
Hi Adam,
Is there any plan to add a feature to at least show Windows 2000 devices... We would also like to show our Linux estate even if we cant scan it either.
Hi Gary, we do not have plans to to show Windows 2000 devices.
As a new PDQ Inventory user and the Admin of a large Manufacturing site, we have several dozen legacy 2000 machines used for machine control. This makes updates, drivers, Antivirus, hostfiles changes, and various other functions just as vital as for XP and above. Our machines are controled by smart-devices that are IP addressable. PDQ Inventory would be fantastic if it could just simply inventory just the basics, like Name, IP, and Description. All our devices are SNMP capable, so it would work well under that.
