Link Active Directory User to a Computer in PDQ Inventory

We link PDQ Inventory to our AD for Computers but I was wondering if we could somehow link the computer to a user in AD as well?

I would like to see what users have hardware assigned to them and run reports on those users. For example, I want to ensure that all users with 'manager' in their job title or that they belong to a particular group in AD has a specific type of notebook assigned.

There are many other scenarios that linking an AD user account to a computer would work really well and the only thing we have to come close is using Custom Fields and manually entering the data in. This is prone to typos though and doesn't include other useful info, such as the job title, department, office location etc that would otherwise be part of that users AD profile.

If no AD user sync is available, perhaps some sort of export so we can fill out the details outside of PDQ and then import the data using the computer name as the key identifier?

  • When I want to know what computer a user is using I just do a filter for the users login and PDQ inventory will show what computer the user is logged into according to when it was last scanned.

  • Yes, and this is something we do use but sometimes someone else is logged into the computer for one reason or another so would prefer to assign a piece of hardware to a pre-defined list of users from AD.

Furthermore, the additional details held in AD about that users are not available to report on. For example, I wish to find out what notebooks Managers have. I could either do this based on members of the Managers AD group, or filter anyone that has the word "Manager" in their AD Profile. Neither of which I can do as this information from AD isn't passed through to PDQ Inventory.

Perhaps this should be a feature request?

  • I created an account just for this particular request. I see that this was 4 years ago though, dang :(

I just want some kind of manual field entry even in PDQ Inventory to assign a primary user to an asset.

I found the custom fields tab. This is helpful. What would make it even more helpful would to be able to link it to an ADUC user account :)
