List of approved applications
Hello,
We would like to create a Dynamic Collection and manually enter all the "approved applications" that are installed, so that it will filter out any that we have not manually entered.
This in an attempt to immediately see any application that is not manually entered in the dynamic collection.
For example: if a user installs an application that is not "wanted" , we would immediately see it after an application scan, because it would not be in the list of applications that we approve of, and thus the object would show in the dynamic collection, and attract our attention.
How would we go about doing that?

I don't know if you can do a dynamic collection. But I do this with reports. I create a report basically with the publishers I approve in this manner:
Application report:
List all
and so on...
If you want to use app names that works too, but your list will be very long.
Hi guys,
While having a white list / black list for applications is possible, I'd have to agree that it would be very long and tedious to maintain over time. What I'd propose is that you run an Applications Report and sort by Application Name. This gives you a quick glimpse and anything that stands out will catch your eye. If you notice a pattern with a certain user you know what needs to be addressed with management. If you want to take that a step further you can create a collection for each piece of software that you don't want and can see at a glance if it shows up after scanning.
What I do is I created two reports the auto run every day and get emailed to me.
The first report just has a short list of any applications that have been installed in the last 24 hours. The list is always short since I'm not installing many new applications and mostly just contains the java / flash updates etc. However If there is any application the shows up on the list that I didn't push out or install myself, I then look at the second report that is a little longer and contains all the new applications installed in the last 24 hours and what PC's they were installed on.
Hello guys,
These sound like very good workarounds.
Will give them a try.
Tough I would rather see this possibility in a dynamic collection.
Will look into submitting a feature request.
Thanks!
No need to file a feature request, what you ask can be done. It however will require that you maintain the list of software.
