Cant find any Office Hotfix in inventory

Hi,

The Hotfix released on 15 October damage the Office 2010 Installation when it comes to open documents directly from SharePoint. Downloading first and opening works tho.

Excel/word etc then crashes with a mso.dll error.

We want to uninstall it on all Computers, but im not able to find it with PDQ inventory.

It does not matter if I manually check the installed hotfixed on a Computer or do a inventory dynamic scan.

My dynamic scan Looks like

Hotfix -> Name -> Equals -> KB3055034

Any idea?

PS: ist an Office hotfix not an Windows hotfix.

  • Hi Christopher,

When you look at the physical computer does the hotfix show on the hotfixes panel or in add or remove programs?  You'll have to determine if the hotfix shows without a custom scan or not first.  From there you can decide if you can make a standard dynamic collection or report to show the information or machines.

  • Hi,

I just made the check and the update is shown under programs and Features -> installed updates. It's listed in the Microsoft Office  Professional Plus 2010 section.

It's an Office 2010 update and i just realised that none Office update is shown in inventory under hotfix at all?

Does inventory only recognize Windows updates but no Office updates?

  • EDIT: I have to ADD: I open a Computer directly not using inventory collections and i cannot see any Office update that i have installed under the hotfix section.

  • Hi Christopher,

We just scan for Windows hotfixes as they are scanned in a different place than application hotfixes even though they're displayed together in the control panel.  Windows hotfixes are only accessible via WMI and application hotfixes are in the registry.

  • HI,

okay how to find that hotfix then if not in the hotfix tab?
What should I setup in my collection to find it?

Is there any way to find Office Hotfixes?

  • Hi Christopher,

With the Pro and Enterprise licenses you can create custom scan profile to look in the registry where you designate and then use that information to create your own Dynamic Collections or Reports in Inventory.

Take a look at this video we did a while back on creating a custom scan profile to find large .pst files.

    Scan for Large .pst Files

  • Hi Jason,

can you maybe add this to your future Feature List? To implement a Default way to get ALL of the updates and Hotfixes displayed somewhere?

In an Enterprise Environment it's crucial to see all Hotfixes and Updates I can see in the installed update pane in the control Panel. How this have been skipped until today and noone was complaining?

I dont want to scan registry stuff manually for this kind of default things. In an automated Enterprise Environment there is no place for manually special things.

The current situation totally crush our security Strategie as we dont know what kind of Hotfixes are installed on our Clients and which not except the very important ones for Windows OS.

Can you please check out of you are going to implement a Default way to check this in pdq inventory? Might be a decider to extend pdq or not..
