Windows Update Errors
Is there anyway to detect whether a windows update process failed or is not working and see this in pdq inventory? Sometimes computers will not be communicating properly with a WSUS server and will end up with a 0xsomething error. Or if some patch isn't working and it's failing over and over again.

From PDQ Inventory, you can open a PC and check which updates were installed in the "Hotfixes" section. It will show you the name, install date, and so on.
As for finding failed updates, perhaps PowerShell can be of use? Technet has a lot of scripts/resources available that might help. Perhaps this one does what you need: https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Get-Installed-FailedWindows-9f28742a
