Server Disconnects Repeatedly

We recently installed PDQ Inventory and Deploy in Central Server Mode on a virtual 2016 Server. 

After some initial testing I've begun Syncing with AD machines. There are slightly more than 100 machines in each container that I'm syncing, yet Inventory keeps freezing up and crashing. Even though I'm going through the Console on the server, I am repeatedly getting the "Server Disconnected" error or a timeout error when restarting the Inventory client. Even when the sync does appear to work, it is extremely slow. Is this normal?

Is there a better practice to sync with AD that I am not aware of? 

Can't find much about similar issues through the knowledge base, unfortunately.
