Sharing PDQ Deploy / Inventory Software Rollout configs

On the recent Live Q&A I asked about the easiest way to share complete PDQ / Inventory rollout configurations.  Central Server was brought up as well as exporting / importing .xml files.  

Central Server looks great, but our PDQ installations are spread around the country and it does not look ideal to us.  

The .xml sharing would save some steps, but I'd like to see if the process can be streamlined more.  It sounded like there was another method which would not work because the IDs of the things would not match. 

My question is: would it be possible to reach into the database and point things at the correct ID?  The idea would be to provide a site with the necessary files and then have them run a script to actually import things into PDQ.
