PDQ Inventory Agent - Network Architecture
I'm currently testing Beta 3 of Inventory 16.
The agent feature seems brilliant. I've run some tests with 2 workstations of identical specs and the one with the agent completes a full scan significantly faster than the one without.
I'd love to be able to use it for connecting to our laptops remotely for inventory info but have some security concerns about the methodology used to connect. I haven't been able to find any documentation on that part of the build.
Can you shed any light?
Thanks in advance

We are announcing the End of Life (EOL) of the optional PDQ Agent beta from our existing products. See this blog post for more information https://www.pdq.com/blog/pdq-agent-status-update/
I have not been able to find anything about the Agent other than how to install it. Nothing about what benefit's it provides or when and how it connects to the inventory server.
I don't see a improvement in scantime compared to non agent endpoints
@Asher:
Here is an FAQ that I hope answers your questions: https://support.pdq.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003044012
@Colby, that's exactly what I was looking for, thank you!!
@Christian, I've expanded my testing pool as follows:
Server Location: London, UK
Remote Site 1: New York, USA - Latency to main site ~80ms
Remote Site 2: Dubai, UAE - Latency to main site ~120ms
All 3 sites are on the same domain, connected by a mesh VPN i.e. 'internal' in PDQ parlance
In both remote sites, I installed the agent on 4 PCs of identical spec (i7/16GB/SSD). I then ran a 'Standard' scan on the 4 PCs and on 4 of identical spec without an agent installed at the same time.
In all cases, the PCs with agents completed the scan approximately 20-60% faster.
This is hardly scientific testing but enough to make me excited about the possibilities that an agent-based deployment brings.
