Software - Active Use reporting

Is there a way that Inventory can report on if a piece of software is being used. An example is we could say have bought 10 licenses for Microsoft Visio and we want to know how often the software is being opened??

If user 4 opened it only a couple of time in a few months, we give their license to someone else.. haha

  • You'd want to use Applocker or something like this to track usage.

I rolled out an Applocker policy to all our machines using PDQ, and am running a daily job to send up the data to a share where I run a Powershell script against it to find my usage for Autocad.

It logs to the eventviewer under the Applocker tab. The information it pulls back looks like this:

    2018-07-24T08.44.16.5665612-05.00%PROGRAMFILES%\AUTODESK\AUTOCAD 2019\ACAD.EXE,102

Which means this user opened up Acad.exe 102 times.
