Computer name not found

Trying PDQ Inventory. There is a computer that appears in the PDQ Inventory scan, but isn't in DNS (forward or reverse) nor in DHCP. I cannot ping nor nslookup it. Why does PDQ Inventory think it exists? I have tried un-checking 'Allow Scan' and then deleting the computer from the entry. It reappears in the next scan.

  • What kind of scan?

    AD sync or Network Discovery?

  • I believe it I created it as an AD Sync. However, now I just right-click on Computers under the domain name and select 'Scan collection' | 'Standard'.

  • Check the AD Sync, i think auto sync is enable

Every time the sync runs, your ghost computer comes back.

Add the columms "Added fom" to verify where the device comes from (Ad Sync or Network Discovery).

If you add the "AD Path" too, you can see where in your AD the device waits to be deleted.

  • 'Added from' is 'AD Sync'. 'AD Path' is 'Computers/Bill'. Of course, it was in the AD's list of computers. I will delete it from there and see what happens. This might solve a bunch of other problems, too. Thanks.

  • I removed the ghost computer from both the Primary and Secondary Domain Controller and re-ran the scan. It did not re-appear.

One more problem. We have a workstation (Windows 7) that doesn't do anything except manage the UPS on a VMware cluster. During the scan, it is the last one still running - says 'Connecting'. It eventually times out - 'Exceeded timeout for completion. {0}'. I can Remote Desktop to it.
