Why are some of my collections highlighted?

Why are these images highlighted in grey?

    That's an item appearance option you can set. If you right-click a collection and select View > Item Appearance (or highlight the collection and hit Ctrl Shift F2) you can toggle 'Display as Section Header' to gray or ungray the collection. Section headers will be gray, whereas non-section headers aren't.
