Request: Surface Firmware

So with WSUS the Surface firmware updates are not offered. I was just about to go download the installers and make some PDQ deploy packages and thought man it would be sweet if PDQ had those in the library. Is this something possible to add?

  • Currently there are 14 Surface devices (Surface Go, Surface Laptop, Surface Pro, Surface Pro with LTE, Surface Pro with LTE (non-AT&T), Surface book2...), each has its own firmware which only applies to a specific Windows 10 build. If PDQ were to include them in the library, the package size would be over 10GB with a lot of steps and WMI filters.

  • If it was one giant package sure. That wouldnt seem like the best way to do it though. I have faith in the geniuses at PDQ could figure out a great way to do it.

Either way its no big deal for me to make these myself, I just thought it would be nice if it was possible

  • That would be awesome if it happens.
We luckily only have 4 of those models, and 3 windows 10 builds to deal with.
I'd guess a package per model would work best.

But the random pattern that they release updates at makes these packages a pain to maintain for us.

I know two other admins that make their own PDQ packages for them, I'm guessing there are many of us out there that would benefit from this.

Now that the PDQ Windows Cumulative updates are separated into separate 32 and 64 bit versions (we don't have any 32bit), we save enough diskspace and network bandwidth to replicate some extra Surface updates across the DFS shares.
