Multiple Computers for the same IP

Hello!

I've setup the scavenging of old DNS records in both the Forward and Reverse Lookup Zones by following the video Admin Arsenal created and also the KB article. I know it takes a couple of days for that to work itself out and I should exercise patience, and I will. However, 1 issue that seems to be present no matter what: How do I refresh PDQ Inventory's records? Here's the background:

I have two computers associated with the same IP 10...168 in PDQ Inventory Version 14; LBJ and JFK. I verified that computer LBJ is indeed the computer that is using 168 via ipconfig at the local machine. From the server that PDQ is installed on I did nslookup on LBJ and received an IP address of 10...168. I did an NSLookup on 10...168 and received computer JFK. I then went into DNS on the server where PDQ is installed and manually deleted the record that had 10...168 associated with JFK. I went back to PDQ Inventory and restarted the background service (which closes and reopens Inventory) and both computer instances are still there. How do I get PDQ to rescan the DNS if that is where PDQ gets this information?

  • Have you flushed the DNS on the server hosting PDQ?

    ipconfig /flushdns

  • I have. Yes. I just did it again in case the Scavenging Time frame was up. I set it to 4 days 5 days ago, so it should be doing its thing.

  • I checked in today on the ol DNS server and I see several computers with the same issue - Multiple computers with one IP. There are a couple that are outside of the Scavenging time frame (it's timestamp is 6 days ago, and scavenging is at 4 days, and the refresh cycle is to check every 12 hours for scavengable IPs). I selected Scavenge now and the entry in Event Viewer stated "a Scavenging cycle completed but no nodes were visited." The Event data in details states param1 30 and param2 12.
