Access Denied - Failed to write file on target

I'm getting the following error on 4 PC's out of 350.

Access Denied - Failed to write file on target Access to the path '\computer.domain.com\ADMIN$\AdminArsenal\PDQInventory-Scanner\service-1\PDQInventory-Scanner-1.exe' is denied.

The PC's are on the same domain as all the others, using the same credentials. I have tried removing it, re-adding it. I have browsed to the admin$ share on the machine with the same credentials used for scanning, that works.

I just can't fathom why i'm getting this error and on 4 different machines...

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Karl

  • Are you using the agent?

  • Hi Brodiemac

Initially I just scanned the subnet the machines were on that I wanted to maintain. When I got the issue with these machines I installed C:\Program Files (x86)\Admin Arsenal\PDQ Inventory\AgentInstaller.exe on one of the problem machines and tried to scan again from PDQ Inventory but was still getting the same error in the scan status.

I have only just started using PDQ and am currently in a trial period so I'm not 100% sure I have used the agent correctly though. Is running the exe all I need to do on the client?

    Thanks

  • I have managed to resolve this issue. It turned out that I had an old version of our antivirus on these 4 machines. The older version of the AV was causing issues during the scans by not allowing the exe to be placed in the $ADMIN share. I removed the old AV and put on the new and this has fixed my issues.

  • I am getting this depending on the application, browsers about 95% of the computers I deploy to and Java like 50%

I am starting to think it could be antivirus because I tried with Domain creds, local admin creds, and my creds (admin) Also The computers have all be logged into those profiles.
