Help auditing for MS Visual Studio
Hi all, I'm trying to use PDQ Inventory to audit our estate for installations of MS Visual Studio and this is proving difficult for a beginner like me. Searching for Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, Microsoft Visual Studio 2013, etc. brings up a whole bunch of additional software and it's difficult to see if the system has the actual application installed.
I looked at how Admin Arsenal do it for Office, but their search term syntax is too complicated. I've also watched the filtering webinar, and read the help guide, but haven't found how to exclude some items from my search.
How do others approach this?

So this is what I've come up with so far. It looks a bit clunky to me, but seems to work. Is there a better way though?

Hm, so I created a collection from this report, and whereas the report shows 27 machines with VS installed, the collection only shows 11. Why is that?
Are you sure about 27 "machines" inside your report? For me it looks more like we are talking about 27 applications matching your filter on 11 maschines. You can have 2,3 or even 4 times a application match on one Device.
Run the report again and add the computer name in the result to check this.

Here're the report results.
The collection, which has the same filters applied, shows just 11 machines.
What appears to be happening is some of the Not Any filters are not being excluded once you add the Application Name column. If you remove the Application Name column the correct workstation names are displayed. However, I know seeing the matched application names are important and excluding that column is silly. Knowing that, this appears to be unintended behavior. We've already escalated the ticket you opened with us.

I'm late to this post but hope I can help explain this if it's still a problem.
The report shows different results than the collection because of the way it joins on the Application table. By definition, this Visual Studio Collection excludes any computer that matches the Not Any group even if has applications matching the Any group.
By contrast, the report needs to join on the applications table to get the application name. The join will allow it to show multiple results for each computer. Matching applications will show, but excluded applications don't. The whole computer doesn’t get excluded if it has an excluded application.
One way to fix the collection results is to move all the 2010 filters into the same group filter. This will include all variations of "VS 2010 Shell (...)" without your known exclusions.
