PDQ Deploy & Reporting

Just bought both inventory and deploy and deployed my first package with it.

The data is good for the most part however. My boss wants a report of how many installs failed due to offline status, how many already had it (error 1603) and those that installed successfully and wants it automated.

Built in reporting at least in the deploy side feels woefully inadequate. Inventories reporting looks great but I am not sure if the auto reports would be able to provide such information.

In addition, the redeployment queue for each machine shows up as a single deployment per attempt and thus creates a lot of extra data that makes it hard for my manager to pour through.

Any assistance with this would be great as they are doubting my purchase of PDQ at the moment

  • Inventory pulls in a lot of information about deployments from Deploy, so I believe you can get what you're looking for through Inventory. Here are some example reports based on what you mentioned: https://gist.github.com/Colby-PDQ/f433a7af34d00227251326da15f2c525
Save those as XML files, then go to File --> Import to import them as Basic Reports.

For redeployment, I recommend using the Heartbeat trigger. It activates when a computer goes from Offline to Online in Inventory. This way you're not filling up Deploy with a bunch of failed deployments to offline targets. https://link.pdq.com/docs-PDQDeploy?heartbeat.htm
