PC showing 'Offline' while on WiFi

I have a laptop that shows up as 'Online' while hardwired but as soon as I disconnect the ethernet cable and perform a heartbeat, it shows 'Offline'. Other laptops work fine while on our internal WiFi with PDQ. This is the only computer affected as far as I know.

What can I do to fix this issue?

Thanks so much!

  • Lee,

Does this laptop perform dynamic DNS? Does it have this setting enabled in its wireless network adapter?

  • I just checked and both the Ethernet and wireless adapters match exactly like your screenshots.

  • Lee,

Can you try performing an nslookup of this computer before you disconnect the ethernet cable and again about 5 minutes after you disconnect the ethernet cable?

  • Luke, forgive my ignorance but I figured it out after speaking with the sys admin here. I'm still new to this stuff but as of right now he *doesn't* have our DNS configured to show both the hardwired and wireless IP addresses. He is going to research how to get that done tomorrow, so hopefully that will solve these types of issues going forward. Hopefully if he can do that, the "Test multiple addresses in name resolution" will be an effective settings as well.

So yes, it ended up being a DNS issue because the hardwired IP was set in DNS and the lease hadn't expired yet.

    Thanks for your quick replies!
