Cloud PDQ

We have several clients with environments that are not suitable for a local installation of PDQ. We're considering creating a handful of base images in AWS and then pointing them to each environment and then tweaking the collections/packages as needed. If all of the correct routing were in place, would there be any downside to this approach?

  • As long as the cloud instances are talking to the client networks over a VPN, it should be fine. If you're looking to open ports on the clients' firewalls, I would recommend against it because SMB is not encrypted by default. Also, make sure the Deploy and Inventory Server ports (TCP 6336 and 7337 by default) are not exposed to the internet.
