Package Library Windows Updates

Trying to run the 2012 R2 Monthly Rollup update for January but the package does not seem to make it past the SSU step. It just fails with Update does not apply and ends deployment.

Is there something I'm missing?

  • What are the error/exit codes displayed in the result menu?

  • I am getting an exit code of -2145124329, and it just says Update does not apply

  • The most common Google search states that the specific patch  you're trying to install is not pertinent to your OS. That may or may not be the case.

Try to run the SSU locally (KB4512938) and see what it does.

  • Looking at the hotfixes currently installed on the server, it looks like the SSU trying to be installed by the package is old and has been replaced by KB4521864 and KB4524445, which have already been installed.

It seems strange that the PDQ package for windows updates would not see that the SSU is not needed and proceed to the next step, instead of just failing the deployment.

  • Interesting. Sounds like you could probably convert the package to a standalone one, delete the pre-req steps and deploy it normally?

  • Bummer. Sounds like it's Event Viewer and Google time :(

  • Looks like converting it to a standard package, and disabling the SSU pre-req let the package deploy successfully.

  • Does that mean disabling the 'Install SSU Prerequisite' step in the package?
