Disabling Concurrent Sessions

We have 4 admins and hence 4 licenses, but we don't always use the same admin machine. Today one admin installed it elsewhere and logged in, but that meant I couldn't log in because he left it running on his main machine.

Can I disable this so only 1 admin can have 1 active session? There are no circumstances where we would need concurrent sessions for 1 user.

  • I assume you're referring to Remote Desktop sessions connected to the same server?

Enable this Group Policy for the server:

Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Connections\Restrict Remote Desktop Services users to a single Remote Desktop Services session
