Windows 10 upgrade reboot issue

I am working on upgrading our MCS persistent desktops (Nutanix hypervisor) from 1803 to 1903.  I have followed some of the suggestions from others here and mostly working great.  I am able to get a pre-upgrade reboot in, sleep , upgrade all goes great......however i have a few more steps post upgrade that require reboots and the built-in PDQ reboot steps dont seem to work (eventually time out) and I ended up needing to put in a custom command to run a shutdown.exe -r reboot command instead.   Odd thing is it works fine at the beginning of the deployment steps and also if i abort at this step, and run a reboot deployment only that works fine so i'm not sure what to make of it.  here are my steps for reference if it helps. any advice?

  • the only thing i can see is it seems to try and create a 2nd PDQ Deploy Runner service when this task tries to kick off and just spins...not sure if that helps us here or not
