Auto reports - not all reports will run

My auto reports are running but not every day like they're supposed to.  The 4th report in the list below ran this morning and I received the email.  But the first 3 did not run.  I ran the first one manually just a bit ago to make sure it works.

As you can see the reports did run properly yesterday morning at 5am, but they didn't run this morning.  As far as i can tell they are configured correctly.

Is there a log somewhere that might tell me why these reports didn't run?

  • I have a little more info this morning.  2 out of 3 of my auto reports ran.  Or maybe 2.5 out of 3 is a better way of saying it.  Spreadsheets were created properly.  One email was sent properly at 12:00am.  But another one at 12:01am did not send.  The status says "failure sending mail".  The more info on it says "Unable to read data from the transport connection: net_io_connectionclosed".

To me that sounds like my internal mail server dropped or refused the connection.  If I hadn't just a minute earlier successfully sent a message I might think it's my mail server, but I don't think it is. When I search my mail server logs I see the smtp traffic for the first email.  Then in a separate "debug" log file I see both initial connection attempts but the second one at 12:01am has an error.  Looking this error up doesn't help much.

What's interesting though is this is the same error that my PRTG server produces when it checks on my mail server to make sure it's up and running. PRTG basically looks to see if port 25 is open then drops the connection, producing the same error code.

So with that in mind it seems like PDQ dropped the connection at 12:01am.  But I do not know how to confirm that.

I was curious if it would run successfully later so I set a one time trigger for 7:25am.  That worked properly and I received the email.

For now I've adjusted the daily trigger to 3am.  I'll report back tomorrow.  Just wanted to give this extra info while it was fresh.

    Thanks.

  • So far running the second auto report at 3am has worked.  i can't imagine why it doesn't want to work at 12:01am (probably something on my mail server side) but for now I don't care enough to dig into it.  I'm just glad it's working.  :)
