Adding Icons to all current and future users

I have a number of users that remove most of their desktop icons including those that are part of public desktop. So now when a different user creates a profile on that computer they are missing all the icons that i want to show on a new desktop. I would like to know if there is any options for deploy icons to all current and future users of a computer without utilizing Public Desktop.

  • Hi Will,

its actually very simple. To have new users all the necessary icons, its just enough to copy all the *.lnk files to C:\Users\Default\Desktop

All new profiles are based on a copy of this folder.

I'll suggest you copy the standard missing files back to the public folder and to prevent the users from deleting them, you just need to adjust the access rights of the lnk files in the C:\Users\Public\Desktop folder to be read only. Nobody will be able to remove them. (Except if they are local administrators and know how to work with access rights settings)
