Edge for Business (Chromium) Install Blocks Edge Chromium Install?
Hi, so I'm kind of new around these forums so I hope I'm posting this in the right spot. If not, please point me in the right direction.
I have a question about the Edge for Business installer package built by PDQ. Specifically, why does the Edge installer have the "Disable Auto-Update" and "Block Automatic Delivery of Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based)" included as base parts of the installation?
While I don't agree with disabling automatic updates, I can see why some people would want to have that in their environment. But, shouldn't that be the kind of thing we can choose to disable?
Also, why block delivery of the app if it's being installed in the same package? Or was this done to block updates to the Edge version through Windows Update?
I don't know, maybe I'm just not thinking like an admin but it would seem better to have people actually get updates automatically. I know most of my staff never actually takes the time to check for and run updates manually and the IT department doesn't have the staffing to police them.
Anyways, thanks for your time.

We disable automatic updates in most of our packages for several reasons.
- Deploy can do the automatic updating for you (Inventory can help). This saves bandwidth since Deploy is the only one downloading that package. https://documentation.pdq.com/PDQDeploy/19.0.40.0/index.html?auto-deploy.htm
- By default, new versions are not approved until 7 days after we upload them. This leaves time for problems to be found and fixed.
- You can set up automatic testing groups to find issues before they hit your entire install base. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_UTOOP1P1Y
If you wish to re-enable Edge's automatic updates, Copy the "Disable Auto Update" step, paste it into the Post-Steps section, then change "/d 0" to "/d 1".
I'm not sure what the "Block Automatic Delivery" step is for, but I'll ask our packaging team.
