Deploying Windows 10 2004 Update with PDQ fails

Hello there,

I've deployed several Windows 10 Versions to our Lenovo Notebooks via PDQ and it always worked just fine but with the 2004 Update I just can't get it to work. I've tried deinstalling the anti virus, using a freshly installed machine. It always fails.

I've did some digging around and found this in the logs:

"CApplyWIM: Failure while opening image file C:\Windows\AdminArsenal\PDQDeployRunner\service-1\exec\Sources\Install.esd. Error 0x80070002[gle=0x00000002]"

I've redownloaded the Image through the Media Creation Tool several times because I thought maybe something was corrupt.

This is the command line I'm using:

/auto upgrade /migratedrivers all /ShowOOBE none /Compat IgnoreWarning /Telemetry Disable /DynamicUpdate enable /NoReboot

I've also tried DynamicUpdate disable but it changed nothing.

Anyone got any Idea? Thanks a lot.

  • Hi Chris,
The reason for your computer receiving the 0x80070002 Error is due to it not having all of the files that should have been transmitted when updating your software.

Did you add all the files from the created media to the package? Also, did you check the "known issues" at https://docs.microsoft.com/ro-ro/windows/release-health/status-windows-10-2004

Other than that, it is not recommended to do these upgrades via deployment. Do it on your own risk.
