Auto Download Package Updates: Download Failed: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: value.

I keep seeing this error on any auto download package updates.

Download Failed: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: value.

PDQ support had me restart the background service which resolves it for any pending packages, but then if a new auto download package shows up ready to download, it happens all over again.

I shouldn't have to restart the background service on our server every day to be able to download these updates.

We didn't experience this until we converted our standalone server to a central server.

Does anyone have any insight on a more permanent fix?

  • Can you share the full error? You will probably have to retrieve it from the Event Log.

Do you use a proxy? If so, double-check your settings in Preferences.

When you converted your standalone server to Server mode, did you move it to a new host?

No, we did not move to a new host when we converted to server mode.

The proxy is set to use system settings, and works for all other applications.

  • When this problem starts happening, are you able to download new packages from the Package Library? Also, does anything else break, like Help --> Check for Update?

  • I'll let you know.

Need to wait until the issue occurs again, likely tomorrow.

  • To answer your questions:

3 Auto Download updates waiting on approval this morning. Selected LibreOffice update, clicked the "Approve Now" button. It worked. Then selected both the Chrome and Edge updates, clicked "Approve Now", now they had the red circle with the exclamation in it. Same error message as before if I hover over. Right clicking on either pacakge and saying "Approve" or "Redownload" does nothing.

I was able to download a new package from the library (FileZilla) without issue.

Checking for update seems to work fine. We're on the latest version though, so it just confirms as such and says no update it available.

  • That is bizarre. When you switched to Server mode, did you update Deploy at the same time? If so, you could try downgrading to the previous version (uninstall, install old version).

  • So remembering back, this appears to have started when we upgraded to the newest version.

I'll give the previous version a try to see how it works.

  • Turns out this was an issue with our proxy. Sometimes it would allow file downloads from PDQ.com, others times it wouldn't. Found the URL blocks in the logs and whitelisted pdq.com. No more issues. Strange how it wasn't consistent.

Wanted to update here just in case anyone else ran across this.
