Correctly comparing non compliant version numbers

Hi all,

Running in to an issue where I'm unable to compare installed versions of an application that uses a dash in it's version number to denote patch level.

e.g.

6.3.44-1

6.3.44-3

^ Cannot compare and figure out which is the lower version number.

Apart from creating a powershell scanner to check for this and convert the dash to a decimal, is there any other way that would keep the correctly formated version number within the "applications" section of a computer?
