Question about computer discovery

I am relatively new to PDQ inventory/Deploy.  I have done a network discovery by IP ranges that we wanted to bring into PDQ.  Worked great.

We have since decided to use PDQ for Windows updates, but realized that our inventory probably isn't the most accurate after a few months.  Digging deeper i found there is no way to schedule the network discovery.

At this point how do we update the inventory to make sure its accurate.  I can trigger a new discovery of the IPs ranges, but that does not seem to update all computers.  It scans all existing computers and adds new computers, but doesn't remove non-existing computers.  Is there a way to reconcile the network discovery and add only new computers?

Is our best bet to clean up AD, and use the AD sync?  If i have AD computer objects that are no longer relevant would those get imported?

Thanks for all your help.

  • AD would be the easiest way to keep your inventory complete and accurate.

You can sync AD at the top of the domain or you can do specific OU's/Containers.

If your AD is relatively neat, your inventory will be too.  You can (optionally) omit disabled computer objects from being imported into PDQInventory, so that helps a lot!
