Uninstalling Application Returns Error 1605
Purpose
You want to know what MSI Error 1605 means and how to work around it.
Resolution
MSI Error 1605 is a Windows error that means "ERROR_UNKNOWN_PRODUCT". It is returned when an uninstall is attempted for an application that isn't installed on the target computer. To work around it, add 1605 to the Successful Return Codes field of the uninstall step so the deployment doesn't return an error when the application is missing.
The following screenshot shows a command in PDQ Deploy Enterprise mode configured to uninstall Adobe Reader, with 1605 added to the Successful Return Codes field.
This can sometimes happen if the version you are attempting to uninstall is not present on the system. In these cases, if you don't know what version is installed, or you don't know if the application is even installed, you can uninstall software based on the program name.
