PDQInventory-Scanner Service

How can I remove the PDQInventory-Scanner service from user workstations that i would no longer like to be scanned or have anything to do with PDQ Inventory? Besides the service is there anything else that needs to be removed from a user workstation?

  • That service should delete itself once a scan completes. Is it still present on some of your machines when no scans are running?

  • I actually just checked that on a test machine and you are correct it did remove itself. Is there anything else i need to do so PDQ doesnt get run on these devices? I want to remove any agents or files associated with PDQ from them. We are repurposing these devices for a community project. I dont want to have to format & reimage them though.

PDQ Deploy and Inventory are agentless. They only scan/deploy automatically based on their internal schedules. Targets cannot directly trigger scans/deployments.

I would highly recommend re-imaging them anyway since they are leaving your control. Who knows what might be left behind in the thousands of files strewn across systems (I'm not talking about PDQ specifically).

Scan them again. If that doesn't help, reboot. If it still isn't gone, kill any processes associated with it, delete C:\Windows\AdminArsenal\PDQInventory-Scanner, then reboot again.

  • Thank you for the assistance. So if i remove the device completely from All Computers on the PDQ Inventory server , nothing will initiate on those workstations unless the device were still on the server and a scan came from there?

  • Correct. However, if you have AD Sync enabled, the device may come back.
